Oliverhill Winery - McLaren Vale, South Australia

McLaren Vale is where we began and is home to our 'Jimmy Section Shiraz',
'Cabernet Sauvignon' and 'Petite Sirah', or 'Durif' as it is often called. This vineyard was established in the early 1970s.

Mount Benson
Our vineyard here is set in a beautiful area that lies just off the coast near Cape Jaffa.
It is referred to as 'Terra Rossa by the Sea' due to the same red soil over limestone that makes the Coonawarra region so famous.
Mount Benson is a small geographical region that is becoming more widely known, as people discover some of South Australia's well recognised names such as Cape Jaffa Wines, Chapoutier, Ralph Fowler Wines and many more.
In 2006 we purchased our  property of 120 acres with an established vineyard of 20 acres of premium Shiraz vines and we will plant other varieties in the future.

Oliverhill Winery 2012 Oliverhill Winery Shiraz Jimmy Section McLaren Vale
($40) Inky purple.  Cassis, blackberry and blueberry scents are complemented by sexy notes of mocha and oak spices.  Concentrated, sharply delineated and seamless, with excellent lift to its flavors of blackberry, Indian spices, candied flowers and dark chocolate.  Closes focused and long, with resonating spiciness, a touch of violet pastille and very soft tannins.

Glass staining Ruby. Powerful dark berry and candied cherry aromas are complicated by smoky minerals, cola and violet. Vibrant black raspberry and cassis flavors are firmed by zesty minerals and dusted with fine grained-tannins. A spicy note carries into the finish, which is impressively clean but shuts down with air. Excellent potential here, but it could use another year or so of rest. 91(+)

Deep Ruby. Peppery, sharply focused black raspberry and cassis aromas are complicated by fresh flowers and smoked meat. Fleshy and sweet, offering palate-staining red and dark berry preserve flavors, fully absorbed tannins and good lift. A strong mineral note builds through the long juicy finish. I really like this wines energy and cut. 92
